Mrs. Ashley Hargrave

Hello, Thunderbirds!

Welcome to the 2022-2023 school year! It is with great excitement that I write this Welcome Back letter to you as the PROUD principal of T. G. Barr! I am humbled and honored to be the instructional leader of such an amazing community! My top priorities as we continue this adventure together are to spend time building relationships with students, staff, families and our community members, to ensure physical and emotional safety for all Thunderbirds, and to continue increasing our learning to high levels as demonstrated through our academic growth and achievement. It is my hope that out of these relationships, we will create a foundation of trust, a culture of collaboration, and a place where ALL Thunderbirds can SOAR!

My professional background includes a variety of experiences, including teaching at numerous grade levels ranging from kindergarten to high school algebra. I have also served as an administrator at an elementary school, middle school, and most recently at the district office level, as the Assistant Director of Math and Science. Two of my favorite aspects of being a campus leader are that I get to interact with and love EVERY student in our school and that I get to support teachers as we work to plan incredible learning opportunities for our kiddos.

My husband, Zech, and I live in Mesa with our sweet dog, Twix. We enjoy some very special hobbies together, including baking/decorating cakes for kids placed in foster care and flying our hot air balloon! Personally, I LOVE all things Disney – many milestone moments in our lives have happened with the famous mouse, including Zech and my engagement and a special family vacation that is close to my heart.

Being the Disney fan that I am, I was thrilled to find this piece of magic within the movie, Lilo & Stitch. Set in Hawaii, the characters use a word that resonates as a fitting focus for us here at T. G. Barr:

Ohana means family. Family means nobody gets left behind or forgotten.

I truly believe that we each have so much to contribute and that together we can accomplish great things of which we should all be very proud! With so much uncertainty in our world recently, I hope, now more than ever, we recognize the importance of drawing close and supporting one another in love, compassion, flexibility and grace.

Together, I know we can continue to RAISE THE BARR as a united Thunderbird family!
