Welcome to Irene Lopez Elementary School

  • Return to School Update

The safety, health and well-being of our students, staff and community continues to remain our highest priority at the Roosevelt School District. As a result of a thorough review of the Maricopa County COVID-19 health data for our South Phoenix community -- we have made the decision to remain in a virtual learning setting at least until Winter Break. The most recent community level COVID data shows that there has been an increase in the positivity rates within some of our community’s zip codes over the past two weeks. Based on the Maricopa County Health recommendations, this increase in positivity rate is supportive of only virtual learning. Although our school district covers three zip codes and the data varies between the zip codes, we continue to make decisions based on the district as a whole. Therefore, the district believes that it is in the best and safest interest of all our students, staff and community to remain in a virtual learning setting. Our team will continue to prepare to offer an in-person learning setting option in January.  For additional details and information please visit our return to school page.

IMPORTANT INFORMATION ABOUT RETURN TO SCHOOL*

    Dear Irene Lopez School Families,

Irene Lopez and the Roosevelt School District have been committed to following State and Federal health guidance, including community health metrics, to determine when to allow in-person learning. The arrival of the COVID-19 vaccine and its availability to teachers and school staff has encouraged our team to continue preparing to offer an in-person learning experience at an appropriate time after Spring Break.

In order for our school to be as prepared as possible to offer in-person learning, we are requesting that families provide updated information on their learning setting choice for the remainder of the school year. Families can choose to transition their child(ren) to in-person learning or remain in the virtual setting. Please use the link provided to complete our Learning Setting Confirmation Form.

In-person learning will start in a hybrid format, with students coming to campus in 2 groups, either on Monday and Tuesday, or Thursday and Friday. During the days that they are not on-campus, students will be engaged in virtual learning. All students will remain at home on Wednesdays for full virtual learning.

Once a date has been determined for beginning in-person learning, all families will be provided with detailed information on both safety and learning plans for the remainder of the school year. In addition, we will also share information and schedules for the upcoming AZMerit and AZELLA assessments.

In the meantime, we encourage you to visit our district’s website for more information on the steps we have taken to keep our students, staff, and community safe.

    Sincerely,

    Nick Oviedo
    Principal, Irene Lopez School

    Sinceramente,

    Nick Oviedo
    Director, Irene Lopez School

Message from the Superintendent Regarding Returning to School

    July 31, 2020

    Hello Roosevelt Community,

To begin, I would like to thank our entire Roosevelt community for your continued patience and support as our district prepares to begin the 2020-2021 academic year. Our district staff has been diligently planning to begin our school year virtually on Aug. 3, 2020, and we are eager to continue offering the highest level of innovative learning to our amazing Roosevelt students.

As many of you may know, Arizona Governor Doug Ducey issued an executive order last Thursday detailing new parameters for the start of the 2020-2021 school year. While our team is still working through the plans relating to these guidelines, I would like to provide you with a brief update on how Roosevelt is positioned to welcome our students and staff back for the upcoming school year.
