Project AWARE Grant

A Partnership for Behavioral Health In Schools

Comprehensive School Wellness

Roosevelt School District continues to increase awareness and prevention of mental health issues and make ways to develop healthy practices to support students in school.

RSD is one of three Arizona school districts to receive the five-year Project AWARE Grant to address mental health awareness by:

  1. Building and support a sustainable infrastructure for a comprehensive school mental health system with established pathways to community-based support and services for school-aged youth and their families;

  2. Creating sustainable engagement strategies with students, families, and community partners to promote mental health, well-being, and resilience by increasing community/student involvement in policy development and decision-making; and

  3. Increasing the knowledge, skill, and ability of school staff, families, and the community to identify, respond to, and support students experiencing mental health and wellness needs.

Referral Process

When a parent, educator or other source identifies a student as potentially needing school- or community-based mental health services, the student shall be seen by a school-based mental health professional, such as a school counselor or school social worker, to assess whether further referral is necessary.

Parental Consent

Parents can opt into school-based behavioral health referrals at any time during the school year should the services become necessary. Any Student who receives behavioral health services from Roosevelt School District or a community partner must have a signed informed consent from the parent. If a student is enrolled in community-based behavioral health services, staff shall also seek parental permission through a Release of Information to the Community with outside mental health care providers regarding the studentโ€™s care. Parents can revoke their consent at any time.
