Students prepare a dish during the Junior Chef after-school program

Irene Lopez students in the CNS Junior Chef program have been learning how to prepare appetizers, entrees and desserts from basic ingredients through plating for table service. The after-school club teaches cooking as a life skill to practice healthy eating habits.

Recently, Child Nutrition and Student Wellness teamed up with locally owned It's Juicy juice bar for an awesome after-school healthy eating experience! The students created personal smoothies, learned how different nutrients fuel the brain and support learning, and brought home their concoctions and a fresh bag of frozen fruits!

We’re thankful to It's Juicy’s owner, Julian, who is a former student at Julian and King schools, for returning to her roots to teach students the art of making delicious smoothies.
