Roosevelt School District Reviews 2026 State Assessment Results and Outlines Strategic Response
Phoenix, AZ – Roosevelt School District recently presented its 2026 Arizona Academic Standards Assessment (AASA) and AzSCI results to the Governing Board, highlighting areas of growth, continued challenges, and the district's strategic plan to accelerate student achievement during the 2026–2027 school year.
The presentation reflects Roosevelt School District's ongoing commitment to providing every student with authentic, innovative, and engaging learning experiences while using student achievement data to strengthen instruction and improve outcomes across all schools.
Districtwide Results Show Stability and Continued Progress
Overall district proficiency remained relatively stable compared to the previous year.
English Language Arts (ELA):
21.9%, a decrease of 0.7 percentage points from 2025.
Mathematics:
14.7%, nearly unchanged from the previous year with a decrease of 0.1 percentage points.
Science (AzSCI):
Increased to 15.4%, representing a 0.3 percentage point improvement.
While overall proficiency remained steady, district leaders emphasized that student achievement is only one measure of success. Arizona's accountability system places significant emphasis on student growth, recognizing schools for the academic progress students make from year to year.
Grade 5 Demonstrated Outstanding Growth
One of the most encouraging highlights from this year's assessment results came from Grade 5 students.
Compared to the previous year, Grade 5 students improved in every tested subject:
ELA:
Increased from 13.7% to 17.7% (+4.0 percentage points)
Mathematics:
Increased from 13.3% to 15.7% (+2.4 percentage points)
Science:
Increased from 12.9% to 15.9% (+3.0 percentage points)
District leaders identified Grade 5 as the strongest example of cross-subject academic improvement during the 2025–2026 school year.
Schools Demonstrating Academic Growth
Several Roosevelt schools demonstrated notable improvements in student performance across English Language Arts and Mathematics.
Among the highlighted schools:
Southwest Elementary School
increased ELA proficiency by 6.6 percentage points and Math proficiency by 4.0 percentage points.
John F. Kennedy School
improved 1.9 percentage points in ELA and 4.5 percentage points in Mathematics.
C.O. Greenfield School
posted a 4.2 percentage point increase in Mathematics while maintaining ELA performance.
Valley View School
increased both ELA and Mathematics proficiency, including a 3.9 percentage point gain in Math.
District officials noted these examples are intended to highlight improvement and are not school rankings.
Looking Beyond Proficiency
The presentation also emphasized that Arizona's A–F Letter Grade system measures more than proficiency alone.

Using this year's assessment data, Roosevelt School District has identified three districtwide priorities designed to strengthen teaching and learning:
Strengthen Daily Core Instruction
The district will continue improving the consistency and quality of grade-level literacy and mathematics instruction through aligned curriculum, rigorous learning experiences, clear expectations, and strong instructional practices.
Respond Earlier to Student Needs
Schools will use assessment results, student work, and ongoing progress monitoring to identify learning needs sooner and provide timely interventions through a multi-tiered system of support.
Create Greater Consistency Across Schools
District leaders will establish shared expectations for instructional planning, data use, intervention systems, and classroom implementation to ensure effective practices are consistently used across every campus.
