Roosevelt School District continues its commitment to improving student achievement through focused instruction, data-driven decisions, and targeted academic support. During the October 27, 2026, Governing Board meeting, district leaders presented a progress monitoring update on Goals 2 and 4, which focus on improving math proficiency among fifth- and eighth-grade students. Both goals aim to increase the percentage of students scoring Proficient or Highly Proficient on Arizona's Academic Standards Assessment (AASA) to 45% by August 2028. The presentation highlighted student performance, established academic targets for the 2026–2027 school year, and outlined strategies to support continued growth.
Spring 2026 assessment results established important starting points for measuring progress. In fourth-grade math, 16.7% of students demonstrated proficiency on the AASA assessment, with a district target of 20.7% by May 2027. Seventh-grade math proficiency stood at 10.9%, with a target of 14.9% by May 2027. Beginning-of-year STAR Math assessments also provided insight into student performance, helping educators identify areas where additional instruction and intervention are needed. These results serve as a foundation for monitoring academic growth and ensuring students receive the support necessary to strengthen their math skills.
To move these goals forward, Roosevelt School District is strengthening classroom instruction through professional development, collaborative teacher planning, and regular reviews of student performance. Teachers are focusing on building math fluency, encouraging student discussions, and using assessment results to provide targeted interventions. Weekly planning and data meetings allow educators to adjust instruction based on student needs and monitor progress throughout the school year. Through these coordinated efforts, Roosevelt School District remains focused on creating meaningful learning opportunities, strengthening academic achievement, and ensuring every student has the opportunity to succeed as we continue to be the Genesis of Change.
