Cesar Chavez School Renaming Advisory Committee Meeting

1. Call to Order
The meeting was called to order by Arturo Trujillo at approximately 9:00 AM. A quorum was confirmed.
2. Roll Call / Committee Members Present

3. Approval / Review of Previous Meeting
A brief overview of the prior meeting was provided, including:
Introduction of committee members
Legal overview and committee procedures
Review of initial Chavez community survey results
Selection of four proposed school names to move forward for broader community feedback
4. Discussion Items
A. Estimated Cost of School Renaming
Arturo Trujillo shared preliminary estimates regarding the cost of renaming the school:
Approximately $10,000 for building signage changes
Additional costs may include replacement of athletic uniforms, branding materials, carpets, and other items displaying the school name or initials
Committee members discussed concerns that the total cost would likely exceed the initial estimate due to:
Sports uniforms for multiple programs
Branding and promotional materials
Additional campus items displaying “CC”

Survey demographic information was reviewed:

5. Committee Discussion
Committee members discussed:
Whether additional names should be added to consideration
The possibility of keeping the Cesar Chavez name until construction of a future new school building
Concerns about community awareness regarding the planned future rebuild
The importance of transparency regarding costs and future plans
Whether another survey should be distributed including information about the rebuild option
Additional proposed names submitted by community members included:
Unity Grove Elementary
Cultural Compass Academy
Heritage Springs Elementary
Additional Arizona-themed names
The committee generally agreed to continue using the existing four names already included in the survey.
6. Action Items / Decisions
The committee agreed to:
Reopen and redistribute the community survey
Add information regarding the future school rebuild and potential associated costs
Keep the survey open until Tuesday prior to the next meeting
Schedule another committee meeting to review updated survey results and finalize recommendations
