At the September Governing Board Meeting, Roosevelt School District superintendent Dr. Dani Portillo delivered an update regarding the interim goals for Superintendent Guardrail #2.
This guardrail focuses on considering climate survey results to ensure a holistic approach to student development, addressing academic, social, emotional, and physical well-being, which includes after-school programming and wraparound services.
Two of the interim goals were scheduled to be met by August: beginning advisory committee meetings and increasing after-school programming offerings.
In August, the Student, Parent, Staff, and Community Advisory Councils held their first meetings. Each was focused on analyzing data from the annual climate survey so that recommendations for future opportunities could be made. Their next meeting will be focused on the district's budget.
The City of Phoenix PAC programs returned to Campbell, Southwest and Valley View schools in August, along with 21st Century Community Learning Centers at Chavez, Conchos and Julian schools, meeting the goal of increasing programming from three schools to six.
An additional 7 schools will be launching Champions Before- and After-School programs during September, ensuring that every campus has extended day programming for students.
The third interim goal for this guardrail is centered around bringing Child Nutrition Services programming to at least half of the district schools by December, either through a menu tasting or nutrition information sessions.
The CNS team is on track to finalize the session format and materials by the end of the month, allowing them to identify and begin supporting participating schools. They plan to conclude their sessions in January and gather actionable feedback in February so they can adequately prepare for the following school year.
The Superintendent Guardrails and Interim Goals are crucial in attaining the Board's student outcome goals.
