Arizona Healthy Schools Act: What Families Need to Know

Beginning with the 2026–2027 school year, Arizona law prohibits schools from serving, selling, or allowing a third party to sell foods containing certain restricted additives during the school day.

What does this mean for our families?

Families may still send food from home for their own child, even if the food contains one of the restricted ingredients. However, food containing these ingredients cannot be brought to share with other students, including for birthday celebrations, classroom parties, snacks, prizes, or incentives.

If you would like to send something to share with the class, please choose an option that meets the new requirements. Some easy ideas include fresh fruit, applesauce cups, MadeGood bars, SkinnyPop popcorn, or cheese sticks. Please check ingredient labels before purchasing, as product ingredients can change.

Thank you for partnering with us as we adjust to these new requirements and continue supporting our students! 💙

raphic titled “Arizona Healthy Schools Act.” It explains that schools may not serve, sell, or allow others to sell ultra-processed foods on campus during the school day. Families may still send food from home for their own child, even if it contains restricted ingredients, but that food cannot be shared with other students, including during school parties. Examples of foods that may be shared with the class are shown, including fresh fruit, applesauce cups, MadeGood bars, SkinnyPop popcorn, and cheese sticks.
