Our AZELLA Spring Reassessment will take place February 2 – March 6 for students in Kindergarten–8th grade who are identified as English Learners.
✨ What is AZELLA?
AZELLA measures students’ English language proficiency and helps ensure they receive the right support to be successful in the classroom. Students take this assessment once per year until they reach proficiency.
📝 What to expect:
• The test is untimed—students may take the time they need
• Talking with your child about the test can help reduce anxiety
• Practice tests are available online to help students feel prepared
💡 How families can help:
• Make sure your child arrives on time and well-rested
• Please avoid scheduling appointments that require late arrival or early dismissal during testing
Thank you for your continued support and partnership as we help our students grow and succeed! 🦅

The 4 steps to Disagreeing Appropriately are:
1. Look at the person 👀
2. Use a pleasant voice 🙂
3. Give a reason why you feel differently 💬
4. Listen to the other person 👂

P.L. Julian Weekly Social Skill Focus
This week, our school is focusing on the social skill of Using Self-Control Strategies. Each week, students learn and practice a new skill that helps them manage emotions, make good choices, and stay ready to learn.
Families can support by practicing these strategies at home and reminding children that it’s okay to take a moment to calm down when they’re feeling upset or overwhelmed.
The 5 steps to Using Self-Control Strategies are:
1. Pay attention to your body’s reaction 👀
2. Breathe slowly and deeply 🌬️
3. Relax any tense muscles 💪➡️😌
4. Ask for a few minutes alone to calm down (if needed) ⏳
5. If calming down is difficult, ask a trusted person for help 🤝
Thank you for partnering with us to help students build strong self-control and coping skills at school, at home, and in the community!

Just a reminder that we do not have school today as we honor Dr. Martin Luther King Jr. Dr. King dedicated his life to fighting for justice, equality, and civil rights, and we take this day to reflect on his legacy and the importance of treating others with kindness & respect and showing up for those in need with courage.
Also, tomorrow, Tuesday 1/20, is our 100th Day of School! 🎉📚 Please make sure your child comes to school so they can celebrate with their class.
Attendance on the 100th Day is especially important because this is the day our school funding amounts are calculated based on student attendance. This funding helps support our school programs, staff, and resources for students. Sending your children to school matters!
Thank you for making attendance a priority and for supporting our school! 🦅

Our MLK Day Celebration has begun! Come on out to Martin Luther King Jr. Early Childhood Center to celebrate. We will be here from 9:30am-1:00pm for our community fair and carnival!

The 3 steps to Accepting Feedback are:
1. Look at the person 👀
2. Say “okay” 👍
3. Stay calm 😌
Thank you for partnering with us to help students build confidence, responsibility, and a positive growth mindset!

We are thrilled to share that our west-side playground is getting a complete rebuild, a HUGE upgrade that will bring our students an incredible new space to play, explore, and stay active! This renovation is part of our ongoing commitment to creating a beautiful, engaging, and safe learning environment for all Eagles.
🚧 Construction begins Thursday, 12/11, and the goal is to have the brand-new playground ready for students when we return in January. We cannot wait for our kids to experience this amazing new addition to our campus!
🌅 Morning Drop-Off Update
Because of construction in that area, all students will need to be dropped off at the front of the school in the mornings until winter break. Our staff will be ready to greet and guide students each day to make sure everything runs smoothly.
🚗 Afternoon Dismissal
Great news—dismissal procedures will stay exactly the same. No changes needed!
This new playground is a tremendous investment in our students’ joy, health, and daily school experience. We are so excited for our Eagles to have a beautiful new place to climb, play, and create childhood memories. Thank you for your support as we make our campus even better!
🦅 It’s a GREAT day to be an Eagle—and it’s about to get even better!
