📢 Kindergarten Drop-Off Reminder

Dear Kindergarten Families,

As a friendly reminder, Friday, August 8, 2025 will be the last day parents will be able to walk students to class in the morning.

Starting Monday, August 11, 2025 , we ask that all kindergarteners in Ms.Simmons, Ms. Nellas, Ms. Salles, and Ms. Lampkin be dropped off at the designated gate or drop-off area 🚗🚪. A Kennedy staff member will be there to greet your child with a smile and guide them safely to class 😊📚.

To help our students build independence and smoothly settle into their morning routine, we kindly ask that parents refrain from entering the Kinder building during arrival 🚫🏫. We promise your child will be in great hands from the moment they arrive! 💙

Thank you so much for your support as we work together to create a calm and confident start to each day 🌟👏.

🧡 Kindergarten Family Reminders 🧡

We are so excited to welcome our Kindergarten scholars as they begin their educational journey here at John F. Kennedy! Our team is eager to meet each of our young learners and their families. Below are a few important reminders to help ensure a smooth start to the school year:

🚗 Morning Drop-Off
• Kindergarten students may be dropped off in the Vineyard parking lot during morning arrival.
• If you plan to walk your child to the cafeteria, please park in a designated parking space. Avoid stopping in the roundabout—this helps keep traffic flowing and reduces congestion for everyone.

🍽️ Breakfast: 7:30–7:50 AM
• Kinder students will eat breakfast in the cafeteria each morning from 7:30 to 7:50 AM.
• During the first week of school, families are welcome to:
o Sit with their child during breakfast
o Walk them to class afterward

🕗 Classroom Entry Guidelines
• To support a smooth transition and minimize disruptions to instruction:
o All parents must exit classrooms and the school building by 8:00 AM.
o Parents may not remain in the classroom once instruction begins.

📍 Dismissal
• Kindergarten dismissal will also take place in the Vineyard parking lot.

If you have any questions or concerns, please reach out the front office at 602-232-4220

Families can now begin scheduling their child’s physicals. Our no cost physicals will be happening from May 27 – August 30. We encourage families to schedule their child’s physicals sooner than later, especially if they plan on playing sports/activities. Each physical comes with a free backpack! It is no cost to everyone, however, if a child is not insured, they will need to meet with eligibility first to see if they qualify for any programs. This would also establish care for the child, for when the year goes on, they will now have a primary care provider without a long wait to make an appointment in the future.

Your Ocotillo librarian was here today to talk to our students about the summer reading challenge. You can sign up your children and yourself in person at 102 W. Southern Ave, in Phoenix or at maricopacountyreads.org to win prizes. Contest runs from June 1st-August 1st. GOOD LUCK! Thank you Ms. Moore! Reading helps children develop their vocabulary, leading to better communication and comprehension skills. Children's critical thinking and analysis skills improve, helping them navigate the world around them. It stimulates children's imagination and creativity, leading to a love of learning and self-expression. Children develop their memory and concentration, leading to better academic performance. Reading helps children develop their emotional intelligence and empathy, leading to better social interactions. Let’s leave a heart for DL White coming to read to Ms. Lampkin’s class on May 1st! DL read his children’s book that he wrote “The Sensational Letter “S”. This book has been selected by the International Impact Awards, as a positive contributor to early learners, including early word creation and recognition of words. I am grateful to collaborate with DL White to coordinate reading to our students, submitting art to celebrate peace and showing our students how to grow plants and trees from seeds! #community #childrensauthor #academy #southmountain #elementary Melissa Downs Family Education and Engagement Coordinator

🎉 Last week at JFK, our scholars explored creativity and tech skills with Apple Education! 🍦 Kindergarten used Freeform to practice their shape knowledge by building fun creations—like ice cream cones—out of digital shapes. 🌸 First Grade made animated GIFs in Keynote to show their understanding of the life cycle of a flower, slide by slide! 🦁 Second Grade wrapped up their animal research projects by designing engaging infographics in Keynote, complete with images, shapes, and animations. 🚀 Third Grade dreamed big with a "What do you want to be when you grow up?" project—using Keynote to add pictures, videos, drawings, and animations! We're so proud of how our students are using technology to learn, create, and shine! 🌟 #JFKExcellence #AppleEducation #FutureReady
