September is Attendance Awareness Month across RSD and we're kicking things off with a district-wide challenge:
Attendance Awareness Spirit Week, September 14th-18th! Every school in the district will compete to have the best daily attendance rate all week long. The school with the highest point total by Friday wins district-wide recognition, a certificate or trophy, and a schoolwide reward!
Here's how we earn points:
-96-100% of students at school earns us 5 points each day! We want the greatest number of points so we need our Eagles here!
We want Julian to win, and the way we do that is simple: get your kids to school, on time, every day that week!
Each day also has a fun theme, so get ready to show your Eagle spirit:
-Monday, Sept 14 – Wake Up, Get Up Pajama Day: Roll out of bed and wear your favorite appropriate pajamas to school!
-Tuesday, Sept 15 – Wacky Tacky Crazy Socks Day: Show off your wackiest, most mismatched socks!
-Wednesday, Sept 16 – Wild Hair Day: Wild hair, don't care, just be here on time!
-Thursday, Sept 17 – Teamwork Thursday: Wear your favorite sports team shirt or jersey!
-Friday, Sept 18 – Fun Spirit Friday: Rep your favorite Julian Eagles gear!
Great attendance today means a brighter future tomorrow. Let's show RSD what Julian Eagles are made of! Be Kind, Be Responsible, Be Safe.

🫐🍊🍋🟩We received the Fresh Food Grant for the second year in a row! Twice a week, students are given a fresh fruit or vegetable snack. This promotes healthy eating and trying new things. The fruit of the month are chocolate persimmons and the vegetable of the month are sun chokes. Attached is the calendar of the other nutritious, adventurous snacks for the month of September! 🫑🥕🍅

Also starting tomorrow: 21st Century before and afterschool clubs begin! If you need confirmation of which days your child is registered, or if you'd like to register your child, please contact the front office. Some clubs are already full, but a few spots are still open, so reach out soon! 🦅

Mark your calendars! Picture Day is Tuesday, September 8th at Percy L. Julian School.

We want every student at Julian in class, every day, so they don't miss a single moment of learning. To celebrate great attendance, we're launching Free Dress Fridays again this year!
Here's how it works: if your student is present all day, arrives on time, and stays until dismissal Monday through Thursday, they earn the privilege of free dress on Friday!
Being at school on time, every day, makes a big difference. It means your child is here for every lesson, every friendship, and every chance to grow. Thank you for partnering with us to make attendance a priority!

📢 New Health Guidelines for Classroom Celebrations
Eagle Families,
Starting this school year, Roosevelt School District No. 66 is following the Arizona Healthy Schools Act (Senate Bill 1062) and USDA Smart Snacks standards. These guidelines affect what food can be served or sold on campus, including for birthday celebrations and classroom parties.
What this means for you:
Many common snacks, like chips, candy, sugary drinks, and donuts, no longer meet the requirements and can't be brought in for celebrations. Homemade food items are also not allowed, since they don't come with the nutrition labeling needed to confirm they meet Smart Snacks standards. We want you to know this now so you're not caught off guard (or turned away!) if you're planning to bring something in for your child's special day.
What you can bring instead:
•Approved store-bought snacks like fresh fruit, low-fat yogurt, whole grain crackers, string cheese, or 100% fruit snacks
•Non-food celebration ideas, like small gift bags, stickers, pencils, or little trinkets for classmates. Such a thoughtful way to celebrate without worrying about food restrictions!
If you're planning to bring something in for your child's birthday, please message your child's teacher through Thrillshare ahead of time so they know to expect it.
If you're ever unsure whether an item qualifies, please contact Child Nutrition Services or our front office before purchasing.

We appreciate your partnership in keeping our Eagles healthy and ready to learn!
The Eagle Way,
Percy L. Julian School

What a wonderful first week we had at Percy L. Julian School! Our hallways were full of energy, our classrooms were buzzing with learning, and it was clear from day one that our Eagles are ready for a great year.
Thank you as always for trusting us with your children. That trust means everything to us, and our whole staff is committed to earning it every single day.
We also want to thank you for your patience as we worked through our dismissal routines this week. Getting everyone home safely takes teamwork, and we appreciate you working with us as we settle into our procedures.
A few important reminders:
📚 Benchmark testing is happening now. Students are taking their benchmark assessments this week and next. These results help our teachers understand exactly where each student is starting so we can support them well all year. Please make sure your child is at school and well rested during this window.
✅ Attendance matters every day. Daily attendance is one of the biggest factors in student success, and it's especially important during testing weeks. If your child needs to be absent, please contact the office so we can plan accordingly.
We're proud to have your Eagles with us again this year. Here's to a great year ahead!

Thank you for a wonderful first week of school! It has been a joy to see our Eagles back in the building, and we're so grateful for your support as we settle into our routines together.
As we continue to strengthen our dismissal process, here are a few reminders to help keep things smooth and safe:
-Front office pickups end at 3:00 PM. If you need to pick up your child early, please do so before 3:00 PM and bring proof of the appointment causing them to need to leave school early. This helps us ensure that every student arrives safely at their assigned dismissal location once dismissal begins.
-Walking gate pickups: Please walk over to the gate with your yellow sign in hand.
-Driveline pickups: Please stay in your car and have your yellow sign visible. This keeps the line moving quickly for everyone.
We know the first few days of any new routine take a little longer, and we truly appreciate your patience as we work out the kinks together. As always, thank you for your support.
If you'd like to talk with me directly about any of this, I'm always happy to meet. Just call the office to schedule a time.
With gratitude,
Aimee Marques
Principal, Percy L. Julian School
